| There have been several changes at the Pigeon Valley Steam Museum in recent years. The name "HIGGINS PARK" has been given to the grounds of the complex and is home to the Pigeon Valley Steam Museum, Rover Car Club, Nelson Vintage Engine & Machinery Club, and a new group in the last two years, the Historic Transport Museum Trust.
Collected together within this complex is a wide range of machinery and exhibits from days gone by. Here you can enjoy working and static steam engines, vintage tractors and small engines, many of the old trucks that were a part of Nelson's earlier years, military vehicles, the facinating Rural Life Museum building, and an old time working sawmill. On open days, rides are given behind a Traction Engine, and also on a Rail Jigger around the Bush Tramway.
The Park is always open and is a wonderful spot for a picnic and a wander around, and the children will enjoy the playground.
The Pigeon Valley Steam Museum is "On Steam" every first Sunday, monthly, and every Sunday in January, with a small entry fee and free rides. Rover Car Club host a car rally on the first Sunday in September, the Transport Museum's big day is in February, and the Vintage Club hold their two day Annual Show on Nelson Anniversary Weekend, at the end of January. |
