1992 private tuition in portrait drawing
'Out of the blue' I began drawing portraits in 1992, after a year of face painting a continuing occupation at local events that provides much pleasure . After a short time of tuition in portrait drawing and a few years improving my skills I have been working as an artist now for some years. Since 1996 I have held a few exhibitions, and been taking on commission work, and since moving out to Mapua in 2001, have paintings on display at home for sale.
I now have man;y paintings in private collections around the world, as well as a growing reputation in New Zealand for animal portraits in particular. I am painting full-time, working mostly by commission.
I like to convey the feeling of 'being there' - sharing in the environment which I have so pleasure in being a part of, and conveying the intimacy of whatever subject I am doing a portrait of. Switching work sessions between the different styles that I do helps to maintain a fresh approach, avoiding 'burn-out' |
